What is Gate?

 The Examination term “GATE” is elaborated as “Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering” which is about the All-India Examination administered by the GATE Committee. It is conducted in total eight zones across India which compromise IISc, Bangalore and other Seven IIT Faculty members on behalf of the NCB, D. Education, MHRD. The GATE Examination is conducted for Post Graduate Programmes (ME, M.Tech, MS, Direct Ph.D.). The Candidates in the GATE examination can only apply for one paper out of the total 23 listed below. GATE 2018 Application Form Correction

GATE 2018 application form correction will be allowed only after the submission of application form. If a candidate submits the forms with some mistake, he can again request for the “Correction in data by submitting the documented proof for verification.

GATE Corrections/Modifications will be granted in the following fields:

  1. Name of Candidate
  2. Date of Birth
  3. Name of Parent
  4. Status from Gen to OBC and OBC to General
  5. Have you graduated with the above degree?
  6. Year of Qualifying Degree

GATE 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Here is the list to be eligible for appearing GATE exam:

  1. Master Degree holders in Statistics/ Computer Applications/Science/ Mathematics or those who are in the final year of this professional courses are eligible for GATE EXAM.
  2. Candidates holding Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture (Post-B.Sc./Post-Diploma) and the one who are in final year can apply for GATE EXAMINATION.
  3. The candidates who have Bachelor’s degree in Technology/Engineering/Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are pursuing in final year can be eligible.
  4. Candidates who are studying in second year or higher year of the Four-year Master’s degree program (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology can apply for this.
  5. Candidates in fifth-year of Master’s degree programs or Dual Degree programmes in Engineering/Technology are eligible
  6. Candidates in the fourth year of Master’s degree program or Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
  7. Examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institute of Engineers (India); AMICE by Institute of Civil Engineers (India)) as equivalent to B.E. /B. Tech
  8. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

GATE 2018 Exam Pattern

The following information regarding the upcoming GATE 2018 exam pattern is shared here:

Course:  M.Tech./Ph.D. program in IITs, IISc

Number of Papers:  Total 23 papers, can appear in only one out of 23

Mode of Examination: Online only (CBT).

Exam Duration: 3 hours.

Number of Questions: Total 65 questions/100 marks

Type of Questions: MCQ & NAT

Marking Scheme:  question will carry 1 or 2 marks in all papers of MCQ and NAT

Negative Marking: There will be a negative marking of 1/3 marks for the questions carrying 1 mark.

Exam Pattern For All Papers Except GG, XE, XL:

  • 25 questions of 1 mark each.
  • 30 questions of 2 marks each.
  • 10 questions from GA.

Exam Pattern For Paper GG:

  • Part A – 25 questions
  • Part B – 30 questions/2 marks each.
  • 10 questions from GA.

Exam Pattern For Paper XE:

  • Section A – Engineering Mathematics (Compulsory Section) – Total 11 questions.
  • Any two of XE sections from B to H – 22 questions
  • 10 questions from GA.

Exam Pattern For Paper XL:

  • Section P – Chemistry (compulsory section)
  • Any two of XL sections Q to U – Total 20 questions
  • 10 questions from GA.

The following are the type of Questions that comes in GATE 2018  Examination:

  1. Analysis and Synthesis are linked questions
  2. Linked Answer Questions are of problem-solving type
  3. Application by logical reasoning or computation
  4. Recall on facts, principles, formulae or laws of the discipline.
  5. Common Data Questions: Multiple questions linked to a common data problem
  6. Comprehension for Understanding to draw simple fundamental ideas and conclusions.
